Founder and New York native, John Masters, started styling hair in 1975, fresh out of high school. At the time, the inhalation of harsh salon chemicals weren't really much of a concern. However, Masters soon turned to organic food for a more healthy lifestyle. After discovering the negative side-effects of chemicals such as Ammonia and sulfates, Masters decided to look more closely to how they effected the body, as most were staples in common hair care products.

Once he saw just how damaging synthetic ingredients can be for both the human body and the environment, Masters stopped styling and began inventing. John Masters Organics was created to provide a healthy alternative to common skin and hair care pollutants. All products are designed without petro-chemicals, artificial colors or fillers, sulfates, parabens, genetically modified organisms, or animal testing. Instead, the base of the products lie in wholesome, everyday ingredients such as Apple Cider Vinegar and Essential Oils like Lavender and Jojoba, which became the primary ingredients in popular products, such as the Herbal Cider Hair Clarifier & Color Sealer.
