John Masters Organics Sweet Orange & Silk Protein Styling Gel
about the product
Feeling a little lightheaded? Add a little body and bounce with John Masters Organics Sweet Orange & Silk Protein Styling Gel. This alcohol-free product uses a Hydrolyzed Silk Protein formula to create volume without ever being sticky, dry, or flaky. It's even safe for even color treated hair to coax locks up and away.
I have a chin-length wavy bob with a fine texture but a lot of hair. I was nervous about this from the prior review, but I fell in love with it. It defines the waves nicely and even adds a bit of shine, without being sticky or gummy. As with most gels, if you use too much--like, a lot more than a quarter sized blob for my hair length--it can be a little crunchy and perhaps flaky. (I did that once and it wasn't the best, but it didn't flake for me and the whole problem was solved with a shower). It doesn't have heavy duty hold, so if you're looking for something that will hard-core style your hair, this isn't it. Also, I probably wouldn't use this for straight styling my hair, which is fine because I'm way too lazy to wield a hair dryer for my short hair. I really like that it doesn't have alcohol and that it's very organic-minded. It's also reasonably priced--certainly not more expensive than some Aveda products or brands like Moroccanoil or Kerastase--and you get quite a lot for what you buy. Overall, I recommend!

I really wanted to like this. It's organic, it smells nice, it's probably the best case scenario for my funky, thinning mature hair and scalp...but it wasn't. It made huge flakes and made me look like I had perpetual dandruff. I've gone back to my plasticy stuff until I find a better solution.
